All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)

Modern worship can best be understood through an analysis of its biblical origins. The Old and New Testament resources will provide understanding, context, and application for music and the arts in biblical worship, the Jewish roots of the Christmas and Easter cycles, the Psalms in Hebrew and Christian worship, and other similar topics.

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)

Resources for the history of Christian worship will include the New Testament period and continue through the modern era. Articles will explore worship in the early church, the Eastern Orthodox tradition, Roman Catholic worship, post-Reformation Protestant worship, and contemporary worship renewal movements.

“If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath … if you honor it, not going your own ways,or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth.” Isaiah 58:13a, 14a (ESV)

Resources for the structure, style, and content of Sunday worship will provide insight and applications for both traditional and contemporary Christian denominations, ministries, and fellowships. This section will include models for worship renewal and resources for Sunday worship, preaching, and leadership in the musical and fine arts.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord! Psalm 98:4-6 (ESV)

Resources for the musical and visual arts include sections on the history of sacred music, studies in congregational singing and instruments in worship, the worship environment and visual arts, and examples of drama and dance in worship. This section will also include practical resources like musical charts and effective practices for becoming a better worship leader.

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. Psalm 77:11 (ESV)

Resources for worship and sacred actions throughout the year include sample services and applications for music and the arts during Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. Other sections highlight the theology and practice of baptism and Lord’s Table, anointing the sick, child dedication, confirmation, foot washing, the funeral, the renewal of baptismal vows, and marriage.

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:14-15 (ESV)

Resources for ministry, mission, and outreach includes studies and applicational materials for church workers with diverse backgrounds in North America and around the world.  Contributors to this section address worship and pastoral care, sharing the Gospel with people of other faiths, spiritual formation, education, hospitality, evangelism, justice and mercy, hospital and terminal care, and social action. In addition a special section is devoted to worship services for children and teenagers.

Garden City began by exploring how creativity and innovation can and does further edify God's people in worship and mission. Since asking this question ourselves, and through posing the question to others, we've seen projects spring up in technology, music, art, education, and more; everyone seeking to help the church mature in glorifying and growing in Christian faith.
