BILLY AND THE STUMP

Jesus lovingly, and clearly, directly extends the following invitation to the weary in Matthew 11:28-30: “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (New Living Translation)

Joseph Hart, a Congregational minister in England, was born in 1712 to pious parents. He was well educated and was for many years a teacher of the classics. As a young man he renounced religion but, at the age of 40, began reading the Bible and found the peace he sought.

I HEARD THE VOICE OF JESUS SAY

Horatius Bonar, a distinguished Presbyterian minister, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1808. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, was ordained in 1837, and became a minister of the Established Church at Kelso.
