Being filled with the Spirit doesn’t mean God is going to change our personality! It means He empowers the obedient Christian to tell others about Jesus as He provides the opportunity — and He does it through the personality and gifts He created us with!
“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well” Mark 16:17-18.
God is just and would not condemn anyone for rejecting a Christ they never had the opportunity to hear of. But, listen carefully: The person who has never heard of Christ is still not “off the hook” — there is another damnable offense which Scripture presents: Rejecting the knowledge of God as revealed in creation and the conscience of man.
God designed us to be sieved, His blessings flowing through us into the lives of others. This happens only when our primary focus is knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known. When we lose sight of this objective we first become root-bound then root rotten. Evidence of rot? Spiritual apathy (particularly toward spiritually lost people) and loss of joy.
The great reformer-theologian John Calvin (1509-1564) used the Latin metaphor theatrum gloriae to describe creation the “grand theatre” in which God’s glory, power, wisdom, and goodness are on public display, “being too clear to escape the notice of anyone, however obtuse.”
“Until we offer everything we have and are up to God and say ‘It’s Yours LORD; take it all and do with it what You will’, we will be stunted, stalled — indeed stuck in our spiritual growth.”
God doesn’t expect us to know what’s right in every situation we face. What pleases Him though is when we want to do right. I believe there are many of us who truly want to give the Lord our best; the cry of our heart is to be led in His glorious will day in and day out. If you are a “just” man or woman you will be led of God — it’s only a matter of time.
Was there a crisis decision or a turning point in your past when God clearly spoke to you (a commitment to change something, become something, or do something)? Regardless of how the message came, you knew it was of God? Be quiet before Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to bring to your remembrance those early (or perhaps recent) instructions from God and the commitment you made to Him.
It’s impossible to even estimate the impact godly women have had on this world! For instance: Godly mothers have affected the destiny of countless millions by their influence in the home. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, D.L. Moody (evangelist), Hudson Taylor (missionary), Charles Spurgeon (pastor), R.A. Torrey (pastor, evangelist, Bible teacher), Chuck Smith (pastor/Bible teacher), Jack Hayford (pastor/Bible teacher), and James Dobson (psychologist/author) all testify to the shaping influence of their mothers.
“It doesn’t really matter what you believe, just as long as you’re sincere” reflects the thinking of our culture — and is a lie straight from hell! It does matter what you believe because the Bible says our choices determine our destiny.
