Machen, John Gresham

John Gresham Machen (1881-1937) was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a tremendous scholar who studied at Johns Hopkins and Princeton in the United States and at Marburg in Germany. Ordained in 1914 he became a professor of New Testament literature at Princeton Theological Seminary.

Luther, Martin

Martin Luther (1483-1546), the hero of the Reformation, was born in the village of Eisleben. He entered the University at Erfurt in 1501 and graduated with honors. In 1505 he entered an Augustinian monastery at Erfurt and was consecrated to the priesthood in 1507.

Livingstone, David

David Livingstone (1813-1873) was a renowned missionary and explorer. He grew up in Glasgow, Scotland in a poor family. He studied on his own and was able to enter the University of Glasgow in 1830 where he earned degrees in theology and medicine.
